I just started using the ellipticals at the gym a few months ago. I started off at 20 minutes going relatively slow. I've built up to about 35 minutes at a good clip (for me anyway) but I've noticed that after 20-25 minutes my toes start getting uncomfortably numb.
I've tried to slide my feet back on the treads but this doesn't seem to do anything but throw me off kilter in terms of reaching the handles normally.
Before I head to the Dr. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, if it's something normal w/the machine.
I love the elliptical because I have knee problems and it is soooooooooo much better for me, I don't feel a thing in the knee, but now I've got this toe thing going on.
Has this happened to you?
edit: oops, sorry meant to put this in the exercise forum but don't know how to move it now .
Like other said, loosen the shoe laces works, but also, invest in a really good pair(s) of socks that are high quality, not too thick and wick moisture. I found this to help a lot!
I hope it's something that simple for you! It happens to me almost every time I'm on the elipse. I went to a podiatrist who told me it might be related to my back (I know the podiatrist from the gym). So, next step is to check out the back... it "could" be posture related.
But as I started out, I hope it's nothing near as serious for you!
I just came across this and this also happens to me when I am walking.
I cannot believe that it can be as simple as loosening the laces. I do tie them tight.
Thank you!
I just realized I forgot to loosen the laces on Tuesday!! I was supposed to go today but the two hour snow delay blows my chance to go to the gym because preschool is just cancelled.
I've got to remember to try this next time.
I talked to the lady at the gym about it, and she said she pretty much can't go beyond about 25 minutes w/out numb feet.
Happens to me, too. I also loosen my shoelaces, although I have to remember to tighten them again when I get on the treadmill.
I'll also wriggle my toes, move my feet around, rock from heel to toe, etc.
