Heart disease patients have long been encouraged to eat more fish or take fish oil supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids. The reason? People who do, tend to live longer.

Before rushing out to buy fish oils - folks should know there are fish oils and there are fish oils. The best ones assay their DHA and EPA [the relevant omega 3's] and also assay for heavy metals. Expect to spend good money for good fish oil.
We take two a day, also getting plentiful ALA from flax and other vegetable sources and minimizing omega 6 [most vegetable oils but not nut and olive oils] which seems to be implicated in inflammation. We are also eating fatty fish at least twice a week - working on 3 times [it is NOT cheap to get wild caught and not handled by the Chinese who I just don't trust with food anymore]
