Well that's because when you get older you shrink...so that 6'5" man is probably only really 6'2" when he dies and that 5' 9" woman was only 5' 7" when she went...think about it.
Like my grandmother? She always joked about that "in fifty years you will open the door and all you will see is a tiny, short old lady you will not recognize as me anymore"...
She was short the whole time I knew her - I wonder how short she was from the beginning?
Anyone else think there is a connection between being shorter and living longer?
Japan's life expectancy is 4 years longer than the US, and also on average three inches shorter. Many Latin countries also have comparable live expectancies despite being much poorer - and shorter
I think it has more to do with the Asian/Mediterranean diet & lifestyle.
If you Google either or both you will see how healthy their diets are.
The typical US diet is so bad. Hence, the millions of overweight US adults and children. Along with being overweight comes the barrage of health issues.
I think it has more to do with that than how short or tall a person is.
The longest living people on earth are Asian and certain Native American peoples in Peru - both of whom are very short and stalky. By comparison very tall countries in places like Africa and Eastern Europe have the shortest life expectancies.
Height has nothing to do with health, unless you have some sort of disorder like Marfan's syndrome.
People in Asian countries likely live longer due to a combination of diet and lifestyle.
Americans have a low life expectancy because they eat very unhealthy foods.
If you exercise, drink lots of water, and eat healthy (non-processed) organic foods you will live longer. And keep your stress levels as LOW as possible!
Anyone else think there is a connection between being shorter and living longer?
People who are long waisted develop certain health conditions because they tend to gain weight in their middle section. But short people can be long waisted too.

Their diets are healthier than ours.

First, there aren't many 6'5" men or 5'9" women to begin with. It's an extreme in height---just like short people who are 4'5"---you don't see many of those walking around either.
Also, people lose height as they age due to cartilage deteriorating in the spine. My dad went from 5'10" to 5'7" as he aged. My husband is getting shorter too.
