To expand on the question, while there are a lot of obvious differences between now and 1950 in terms of technology, culture, etc., I wonder which changes or new things they'd grasp easily and which would be utterly perplexing.

The high schools have security guards? Why?
You hit on a lot of good ones and gave me a few more ideas.
Cars: brakes, steering, oil changes few and far between, electric cars, park assist...
Food: GMOs, all the allergies (peanut, etc.)
Tech: iPod / iPad / flatscreen TV's (where's the rest of it? ), digital cameras - P&S and SLR
School: some don't allow playing tag and don't teach cursive writing
I could go on... This is fun to think about!
