I have been reading the history of Arizona and it is quite obvious that the government of Mexico stole the northern part of Mexico from the Apaches and Tohono O'Odham tribes.

Since these tribal members are now American citizens should not their stolen lands be returned to them and the United States?

Here are a couple of short wilkipedia links on the Mexico's genocidal war against American Indian tribes. Notice on the following link that Mexico was at war with the Apache's until 1915!!! Also notice that the Apaches fought the Mexicans for over 250 years!!!

Tohono O'odham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scoll down on the Tohono link to the discussion on the border and the tribal members trapped in Mexico.

I am surprised that more Arizonian's are not demanding the return of their lands.

Yeah. Oh wait. I guess the U.S. hasn't treated the Apache and Tohono O'Odham so well, either. So let's go one step further, and give back their original territories, and allow them to form their own standalone nations, outside of Mexico or the U.S. While were at it, perhaps the U.S. should return Arizona's other appropriated land back to the Hopi, and the Pai and Yuman groups. No more Arizona.

It is not a joke.

BTW....yes, the tribes has their trial and tribulations with the United States. We also signed peace treaties with those tribes...right wrong or indifferent. Those tribes never did sign a treaty with Mexico. But now they have dual citizenship with the US and their tribes.

Discussions between the US government and the tribal governments is on a government to government basis.

Some Mexicans claim the US Southwest based on their conquest of the tribal lands. Well, is that any different that the US winning the war with Mexico and claiming part of the original tribal lands??

My point is that we forget so much of our history. Particularly, when it does not fit the "current myth".

I am not sure where "fair" is in today's world, however, history was never fair. It was brutal and might made right for all concerned.

To be fair it looks like those two tribes in particular have legitimate land claims with Mexico.

I had inklings talking to tribal members about their feelings towards Mexico....after reading the history I have gained a new appreciation for their concerns.

Read the wiki links and then read some books on Arizona history that go into the subject in more depth.

Should Mexico return Northern Mexico to the United States??

From what I've read, and history shows, the United States stole the South Western US from Mexico:

What present USA States were part of Mexico in the past

No foreign country is going to negotiate with a tribe. The concept of tribal sovereignty is built up to sound bigger than it is, but in practice it is fairly similar to a state with some exceptions. In any case no state or tribe can negotiate a special deal as international affairs are always the responsibility of the federal government. California cannot negotiate a special trade or immigration deal with Mexico, for example, just the same as the US cannot cut deals involving just one Mexican state.

Actually, if Mexico were to sucede Baja California, Sonora and Chihuahua, the citizens of these Mexican states would be jumping for joy.
