A cool video of Iraq during the 1950s. It seems a much better place than today and a place I would have loved to visit if I was alive then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AajPxROvcTA
of course this was when the shah of iran was in power and that country was a friend of the united states . It is a shame that two of his children have commited suicide and that he himself died in exile in Egypt. It was a beautiful country and now it is a war torn hell hole sorry but it is .

Iraq was a happening place. A wee bit behind the times, but happening nonetheless.
Too bad the US murdered King Faisal II, and installed General Qasim as a puppet. Qasim didn't dance very well on strings so the US murdered General Qasim and then the Baathist Party gained power and eventually the US backed Saddam as a puppet, except Saddam didn't dance on a string very well either.
Afghanistan was that and more. We helped to build dams, roads, and infrastructure. Then the Taliban tore it up. We were in this area 60 years ago. Doing good. And noooo one talks about it.
You don't even have to go back that far in time. Looking at Saddam's era and even that was a different Iraq than what the Western media made everyone believe.
Iraq was cobbled up by the Brits from various tribes that had different religions (Islam but different flavors), culture and traditions and were not on friendly terms with one another.
This could've been intentional - to keep it from becoming too powerful on a local level - or just a fine example of an ignorant, arrogant screw-up.
Either way, I highly doubt that it was all smiles in the 1950s. It still had Sunnis, Shi'ites and Kurds trying to share one country.
You can see an billboard advertisement for beer on the clip at 2:12 behind the policeman.
