Tons of people supported Hitler. Most of Eastern Europe, much of South America, even many people in the U.S.
The German American Bund had huge Hitler rallies and even Nazi summer camps for kids, all over America. People tend to forget certain inconvenient truths.
Before WW2, many U.S. schools taught in German. Ever see the Lawrence Welk show? He had terrible English, but was American-born. He went to German-language public schools in the Dakotas. This all ended after WW2, when it became kind of embarrassing to display German heritage.
Hitler was very popular, and democratically elected. Just because someone wins the election doesn't mean they aren't an inherently evil person who will destroy the people who elected/supported him. You see similar examples in the present day.
In New York their Brown Shirt Brigade held a rally which the Jews broke up. After which they were known as the Brown Shorts Brigade.

Just a fact, Chaplin was ousted from the US for filming the great dictator.
He was perceived as a man from very humble origins that helped the poor, of course, there were propaganda agencies, etc.
Not true. TGD was released in 1940. It wasn't until 1952 that his visa was revoked with a note that it would be reinstated if he would subject himself to an interrogation regarding his political affiliations. He chose to not return.
Very interesting thread. It's funny that the deeper you look into this period, the more "inconvenient truths" you uncover. Fascist movememts had a fairly vigorous following in places such as the UK and the US in the years leading up to the war. Hitler himself was not short of prominent admirers.
Even to this it's not difficult to find Nazi sympathisers, on the Internet at least...
