Philadelphia unveiled a new monument at City Hall today dedicated to largely unsung civil rights martyr Octavius V. Catto. He did essentially the same things that both Jackie Robinson and Rosa Parks did, only 80-90 years earlier, in addition to military activities during the Civil War.
The monument is well-deserved and I give the Philadelphia credit for putting it up, but given the city's demographics, it's disappointing that he is the first black person honored with a public monument in the city. Hopefully other locations will decide to honor the contributions of people who reflect the diversity of the country.
There used to be a poster on this forum with the username ovcatto - I wonder whatever happened to him.
