One thing about the late 1960s and 1970s, cartoons were violent and not politically correct. I watched cartoons like Speed Racer and some japanese live action shows( Battle of the Planets, Ultra man, Johnny Socko and his Flying Robot) and people died in them and there was violence. By the time the 1980s came cartoons made kids into sissies, particularly shows like G I Joe and all the kiddy shows.
TV kind of sucked but the music was good. Movies were good.
Nowadays its all crime shows and court and corpse shows. Comedies reek.
Hard to describe an era when Star Trek, Get Smart, Batman, and The Avengers were on network TV as being one in which "TV kind of sucked"! (Although Batman was more mid-60s than late 60s) Not to mention some very well written and high quality westerns like The Virginian, and if we're talking about the early '70s there was Alias Smith And Jones and Kung Fu.
I could understand someone saying that Nixon era TV as a whole was not up to the level of Kennedy era TV, however.
For sitcoms, the late '60s was not a very good time but the early '70s produced All In The Family and Sanford And Son - both not coincidentally Americanized remakes of '60s UK sitcoms. I have a feeling that the late '60s in Britain was a really great time for sitcoms unlike in the US...
I had a weird flashback moment yesterday while out shopping and seeing sites with friends in the Dayton(Ohio) area. We were in the salvation Army store and one friend said, "What are those weird markings on the floor?" I looked down and replied, "Oh my gosh, it's Rollerworld!" Many a day in my youth was spent there on skates... or dancing it up in the disco.
No cell phones, faxes, GPS, computers, internet or Six Sigmas. Just hop in the company-provided LTD, make a couple of "sales calls," crack a Falstaff and expense a dinner. Heaven.
Um, no...... the apogee was on 3/24/73......... with the release of Dark Side Of The Moon, Pink Floyd.
