Long time fisherman here but never lived in an area that had Sturgeon until now (Sacramento). I went out the other day for Sturgeon and used a 2 ft steel leader with a snap swivel and a 6 oz pyramid sinker. I was fishing from the bank in the Sacramento River. Is this the right setup for bank fishing/ What do you use? I'm sure different regions of the US have different techniques. Anything will help. Thanks!

P.s. I was using ghost shrimp, that's what nmost people up here use

I have never fished for sturgeon, nor do I know anyone that does, as far as I know. What I would recommend is visiting some of the local tackle shops or well equipped sporting goods stores and asking around there. I'm sure someone in one of those places would know something about sturgeon fishing. Since I don't know Sacramento very well, I can't think of anywhere there to suggest trying, but there is the big Sportsman's Warehouse store in Rocklin that was pretty busy when I was there. You might find someone there that could help you with your questions.

I have done some sturgeon fishing on the St. Croix River (creates the border between MN & WI north of where the Mississippi makes the border) and we use our normal river fishing setup which consists of a hook, a split shot and an egg sinker having the split shot about 8 inches above the hook. Slap a bell on top of the last eye of the rod and enjoy some beers!

Hey SacState
I mostly just fish for bass and stripers but here's what I would do if I were you,
Go over to Fisherman's Wherehouse, it's right off the Watt Ave exit @ 9035 Folsom Blvd. Sacramento, CA 916-362-1200
ask for Alan Fong and tell him what your trying to do...
