I unfortunately don't have a picture but here's the deal--White and tan tile (tan isn't very evident so it looks white..) Large dark oak table, white shutters on window. The dining room is not small, but not big, also it's attached to the kitchen which is all white..There is no other decor yet as we are just moving in--Im looking for a warm color--not blue or green, and nothing in the brown family as that's our choice for living room.. Any suggestions would be helpful!

I usually find something that I like and pick colors from there. It could be fabric, a painting, table runner, etc.

Well, is this going to be a formal space? What color/wood species are your kitchen cabinets?

Do you have solid wood dining chairs, upholstery, or a combination? Are you considering changing them?

Does the dining room open to any other rooms directly?

I would suggest taking a few photos as soon as you can, that way you'll get better suggestions. Also, blue and green can be warm.

Deep blue or Olive/sage green, including fabric that will tie in the tan and wall color.

A pic would be nice.

The OP says she doesn't want blue or green.

I'm loving pumpkin colors lately, all ranges from light apricots to deep burnt oranges.

Hmm the OP's kitchen sounds like mine when I first moved in. I painted my walls navy blue and left the trim white, and it looks beautiful with the oak cabinets. They're original and look pretty nice, and the room has an antique oak sideboard and table as well. The warm yellow tones of the oak mix well with the dark blue.

If you want to go warm, consider that the undertone of your oak is probably golden... I really think the best color to complement oak is something in the blue family, but if you really dislike blues, then would you consider...

...painting the kitchen in a color to complement the dining room? It may not be perfect for the kitchen, but the transition from room to room could be pretty gorgeous. Here are some suggestions:
1. Yellow (like in the picture on the wall) for the kitchen and a dark brown for the living room: http://img4.southernliving.com/i/200...ing-room-m.jpg
2. Brown and cream from the same family for each respective room: http://www.pediniusa.com/products/ki...ics/big/03.jpg
3. Or how about brown in the living room and hot pink in the kitchen, a la: http://homeinteriordesignthemes.com/...n-entryway.jpg

In either case, you would leave the trim in the kitchen gloss white.

Yellow! It is a wonderful, cheerful, happy color. I love those Gingham curtains too! You could put a centerpiece of fake lemons on the table and white placemats with big yellow daisys on them. How cool would that be?
