I was wondering if anyone could recommend to me the propoer cleaning solutions to disinfect and preserve the wood.

Thanks,

To wash wood, use a solution of a little washing-up liquid in warm water. Apply with wrung-out sponge or rag and then rins with plain water.
Or something you can make yourself is black tea and water, using 2 tea bags for 1 litre of water.
If the gloss has been dulled, follow by rubbing a cloth that has a tiny amount of furniture polish on it, or 1/2 glass of water with 1/4 glass of olive oil and a few drops of lemon/orange.

There are a few areas that seems to have darkened. I planned to lightly sand this, can someone tell me if i need to apply a polyurethane sealer after sanding?

Wood is left natural.

That's what I thought, but when I googled it, so many DYI's tell you to seal it.

I'm going with your advice, after sanding I'm going to leave it bare.

I've had a cedar sauna for years. DO NOT, repeat DO NOT, stain, varnish, "seal," or otherwise coat the wood.

Think about what the finish will do in the heat...and think about what it would be like to sit on that finish..not to mention off-gassing - both from finishes and from cleaning products. Just wash it down with water, sweep it out, and you should be fine.

Probably the single most important item is to regularly inspect for fasteners, screws, nails or any metal parts that aren't properly countersunk or otherwise are exposed or worked out of the wood. They'll get you every time!
