A while ago I saw that someone posted they spray painted their door knobs instead of replacing them. I can't find that post now. I was wondering if it this actually works out.

It was me, I spray painted them oil rubbed bronze. I sprayed in my foyer the closet door and the apartment door. So far, so good they have help up with no chipping at all.

Sounds like something that you will need to do over and over again. That is unless you won't be using them.

Thank you. Do you have pictures? What kind of paint did you use and how did you prep the door knobs?

I used rubbed oiled bronze from Amazon, whatever the brand was, I dont remember. I believe it was like 11 dollars a can.
I just lightly steel wooled the knobs, then gave them 2 coats.
I did not make a big ta-do over them, I figured I would replace them when they wear away or chip, but to my surprise have actually held up fine, with no chipping. shocking, I really did not think it would last.....
oh well.....

Thanks again. How many cans did you end up using? I found a door knob discounter online that sells rubbed bronze lever handles for 9.97 each. Trying to figure out if the hassle and cost of paint is worth it.

Just replace them, it's really not that expensive and easy to do.

Oh, yes, I agree with that. The reason I sprayed the is because the door to my apartment is brass with the lock thing on it and I have 1 closet in the foyer. I did not know how I could change the apartment door knob/lock thing, or if they even had it in bronze, so that is why I was just going to spray that, and then firgured eh, why buy another knob for the closet, take my chances and spray that one too....and it worked...not sure how long it will last, but whatever......

adventually I will look into getting another apartment door lockset....but i dont see that happening anytime soon....LOL

You can have the knob sprayed with power coat which is very durable.
