I have a 60" round table. It's cherry and French country. I keep antique brass candlesticks with ivory tapers on the table, but I'm a bit stumped about a centerpiece.
My favorite thing is fresh flowers, or a live plant, but truthfully, we don't have much company anymore, and we're gone much of the time, so living things seem a waste of money.
I hate fake flowers, so that is out.
What would be some good things to put on the table? The decor is monchromatic ivory, bronze, tan, with a painting with red and blue, as well as the other colors, in it.
I would buy something decorative to put there if I knew what to buy.
FYI, I have baskets, and pottery, and glassware, but nothing really comes to mind that would be that exciting.
At Christmas I used huge pinecones, but what to do for spring? For summer?

A picture would help enormously with suggestions.

I was afraid you'd say that. I'll work on it.

I have a hand-turned wooden bowl that has its own small pedestal. I change what's in it regularly. I made a little liner for the bottom of the interior out of bubble wrap so I could put real fruit in it without worry about marking the bowl if something gets mushy. It looks especially nice filled with bright citrus fruit that I usually have an abundance of living in Arizona, or apples that I will eventually use for cooking.

If I don't have any fresh fruit, I have a box of wooden pears I got a Steinmart store. I'm usually against fake fruit, but these are so nicely made I fill the bowl with them. I use gourds in the fall and once Thanksgiving is over I switch to pinecones that have silver sparkles on them. If I happen to have fresh flowers that would look nice on the table, I move the bowl into the cupboard and switch to a tall pottery pitcher that is a bit large for liquids but works well with flowers. It gives me the same natural look the bowl does. The pitcher came from a craft market in Montana. My table is natural maple (rectangular but not large) and I just keep a runner on it. I have collection of them, mostly handwoven in a variety of colors I match to the season or what I have to put in the bowl. Not too exciting I suppose, but I'm pretty understated with decor as my focus is the art on my walls. When I feed dinner guests I take the runner off and use placemats if it's a casual meal or a table cloth if it's a more formal event.

I usually have fresh fruit and few candles year around. Then I have seasonal and holiday decoration.
In summer I have fresh flowers from my garden.
Here are some ideas:

Right now I have one of those big, round lanterns (hurricane looking) with a big candle in it. The candle is flameless and even came with a remote control and timer. It looks really pretty on the table "glowing" at night and shuts off by itself after 4 hours.

I collect dinnerware, teapots and 1950s pottery, so I'm never at a loss for a centerpiece! Flowers are out, though, because the cats will eat them.

Do you really need a picture to visualize a centerpiece for a 60" round table?

You said you have pottery, group some together?

What to use in a bowl or basket besides pine cones?

What about fresh fruits, like green apples or lemons, or unshelled nuts?

What about pillar candles?

What about vintage beads?

Or just a large bowl/vase/urn that looks fabulous even when it's empty?

[IMG][/IMG]

Or a collection of anything?

Since it's a round table, you need to pick round objects or group collections in the center instead of in a line.
