I thought the same, but it doesn't look exactly right to me. Maybe its the colors. And I think the lighter color is silver?

I like the idea of a mirrored piece in the room.

I totally agree with the op that suggested an upholstered headboard and mirrored furniture. Overstock.com has some great light fixtures that would be a little glamorous. I think the other walls should be painted grey either very light or a darker grey like Benjamin Moore adiago.
I think embracing the wallpaper is a good idea. It's quirky.
I also like the idea of bold teal bedding but a silver grey would be lovely as well.
Please post pics again when the room is complete!

I think you can do quite a few things with this room but the wall color seems off to me. I would either go darker to match the teal in it or maybe a grey to pull out the silver coloring in it.

As far as furnishings and bedding, I would start with a base of white and layer on that. For your whites, if you look to high gloss, that helps tie in the reflective, silver in the paper. Also, metallics in silver are your friend here but I would use those sparingly. Too much of a good thing is always an issue. An example:

I was thinking a white base too, like this for the bedding, with a few solid toned throw pillows to bring in the wallpaper colors:

And maybe a metal/iron bed for a more historic/vintage feel? I love the idea of a mirror, maybe something over the bed, or on another wall. Or a mirrored dresser maybe?

i think bedroom should be designed and decorated according to contemporary standerds. so, don't fear if their is a need to remove wallpapers. In my opinion try to look at your bedroom briefly first and decide how many things are needed to be changed. Before setting of furniture you should decide about color scheme and in my opinion light color scheme will be appropriate but if One wall right behind the bed colored full with same color bright and thick style then it looks more gorgeous.

The house is an historic house. Why would you want it to be contemporary?

Its not necessary all times to do changes, sometimes becoming satisfied with the existing decoration may be more beneficial than a new one. Anyways you can track set of advices about bedroom decoration here How Can I Decorate My Room Without Spending Money? | Home Beauty Ideas
