I have a TON of spices, in various shapes of bottles and bags, all wadded up (in only the slightest hint of order) in my cabinet by my stove. I love to cook and so I have about 50 bottles of various spices (this doesn't include all the different salts and mixtures like "Slap Yo Mama" flavorings!).

I just ordered three spice racks with 18 bottles each, and 100 round labels, from Amazon. They're supposed to be here tomorrow! I can't wait to get this organized! I'll post before and after photos!

Are there holes in the bottom of the baskets in that shower caddie?

Ah but now I don't have to clean up the ledges. Something about the shower I just hate when it comes to cleaning.

And yes, as TFW provided the answer to that.

Yay! I had so much fun doing my spice project earlier this year.

Do you have any tips you can share? I am supposed to get all my fun stuff from Amazon tomorrow and I can hardly wait!!!

I know - I have a small life. But honestly, homemaking and domestic projects really do get me very excited! You should see how psyched I am about my newest cookbook with all the ethnic stuff going on in it - hence the renewed focus on my spice cabinet. I had to buy some really off the chain stuff - good thing there are some blank labels coming!

If you don't have one -- buy a small funnel. I also transferred my spices to the new containers over a piece of wax paper, so i could easily fold the paper and pour any spillage back into the jar.

I found it easiest to do all the labels first (which I did while on the sofa, half-watching a movie and enjoying a glass of wine!) and then transfer the spices.

A friend of mine did this recently and chose to use different colored labels for herbs/spices based on whether they were sweet/baking related or more savory. Interesting idea, but I'm not sure if I'd be happy with it.

I don't like to clean either but this little thing makes it easy. Just a quick wipe down a couple times a week at the end of the shower and you don't have to "clean" .

Yep, I ordered a small stainless steel funnel as well, with all my goodies.

I especially like your idea of sitting on the sofa with a glass of wine, watching a movie (preferably an independent film...something like Amelie...

Yes, that sounds like a terrific little project!!! LOL - but must not drink too much wine while trying to pour spices through the funnel, write neatly on small labels, and read subtitles!

Come to think of it, maybe I should just watch something like the Sound of Music...

Just make sure it's not TOO much wine or that funnel could start looking smaller and smaller!

And no telling what the labels would start looking like!

I'd start writing "The Captain" on them rather than "Cilantro"...that sort of thing. "Christopher Plummer" instead of "Green Peppercorn." "Maria" rather than "Marjoram..."

Even when I was a little girl, I was always a little in love with the Captain in The Sound of Music. And don't even get me started on Rhett Butler!

KathrynAragon, I can't wait to see your photos. I still haven't found a solution to my spice problem. My spices didn't fit in my containers and then my new container didn't fit in the cupboard. Now I have little jars all over the kitchen!
