In our 2600 square foot house, we have a large master bathroom (with separate shower and tub and the toilet in it's own little closed room) as well as two separate walk in closets, and two sinks. We have a spacious full bath upstairs between the two guest rooms, and then a powder room downstairs close to the main living areas, which guests can use without having to navigate flat irons or other personal toiletries, climb stairs, or wander off into the master bedroom. This set up is ideal for us - very comfortable.
We have a family vacation home that has four bedrooms but only one bathroom. The bathroom is large...but it's still a pain in the neck when we're all there. Someone is ALWAYS in the bathroom or loitering around the door waiting to get in there, when we've got adults and kids all visiting at the same time. Personal items stacked around everywhere, towels hung around drying, everyone trying to park their toothbrush someplace where no one else will accidentally grab it and use it...blech.
