I'm having trouble trying to decide how to position 3 pendant lights over my (future) island!

The floorplan showed the island with a raised bar height overhang, but mine will be flush at counter height for the whole island with a ~12" overhang for seating along that outer perimeter. Do I follow the perimeter of the island as in the left example, or do it position them in a straight line like the right side?

Length of each side of the island where seating is available is 36" - 62" - 36" and from the front to back of the island is ~65".

The rest of the kitchen lighting is pot lights and I'll be installing LED under cabinet lighting after the fact (builder uses Xenon and I didn't like them).

Which would look better?

Follow the shape of the top (example 1).

That's what I was planning to do, but then I started to second guess myself. Thanks!

I agree. There might be too big a "dead spot" if you go with the second one.

Fwiw, I decided to forgo pendant lights in my kitchen. I have recessed lights instead and I love the open feeling over the island without the pendants. A couple of people questioned me on it but now that you can start to see it (house is under construction), they agree it looks good, and much more open without the pendants.
