1960s & 70s had coppertone, avocado green & harvest gold
the 80s had "almond" and black
the 90s had bright white, to go along with all those white thermofoil cabinets
we've been in the stainless phase for quite some time now, soooo......
what will be the next "must have" appliance finish??
I remember not too long ago that Corian & other solid surface counters with integrated sinks were THE thing to have. now that is considered dated. so, is granite here to stay? or is the quartz trend taking off??

Stainless is still very popular, and I think it will remain so for a long time. It's more timeless than any paint color. Still, the manufacturers are always trying to get people started on a new trend so they will by an appliance before the old one is worn out, and they have done it again. Whirlpool has it's new "Ice" collection (white with metallic trim) and GE has a metallic slate.
It's still S/S- and will be for sometime. Not that other "colors" aren't just as appealing, but when RE agents insist on granite/quartz (etc) and S/S or it's not "sellable"; things aren't going to change quickly. Not that that's the case in every market- but it's definitely the majority.
S/S is still in fashion now but I don't think white (and in some regard black) will never go out of fashion which is why you can just as easily buy them as you can S/S. I just hope that avocado & gold doesn't come back in style.
"Jenn-Air is about to introduce 3 new refrigerators featuring a stunning deep charcoal interior called Obsidian, instead of the traditional white you would expect when open a refrigerator."
Well, with LED lighting, I guess they have more of a chance of that working than ever before, but still, I think white interiors help with lighting more than many realize.
I would just settle for the "average" $3,000 refrigerator to have sides that match the front. Seems like for that amount stainless all around would be standard instead of black or grey.

That looks neat.
I would like to see a bright appliance. Like red or something. ETA: There is appliance paint you can buy to paint them and you can get S/S contact paper.
Since most appliances have some form of a computer chip in them now, perhaps we'll get to "program" our appliances to change colors & patterns as our moods/tastes change.
