That is correct.

Very tight. Like I said it's a small place; this is the living room and kitchen area; half the house.

Please realize that we short people have much experience looking for smaller, yet comfortable sofas. A shallow sofa (outside dimensions) will also have a shallow seat. They are hard to find when the style for years has been large, overstuffed sofas with big rolled arms. Those don't fit well in small spaces.

You might try a vintage sofa. My sofa is pretty old and much smaller than what they make now. . . I could not personally buy used bc bed bugs but many people do and I am sure there are precautions you can take to ensure they are clean.
