Thanks everyone, i honestly would like to change the countertops to QUARTZ, and maybe stain the cabinets a darker color, how the kitchen is right now i think the best way to go is subway tiles? and of course i want to do something behind the stove.
Backsplash depends totally upon the counters. If you are going to replace the countertops, then do that first. If you are going to redo the cabinets, do THAT first, then counters.
Backsplash needs to come last of these three things. And note that subway tile can be of many materials - it's a shape - not a material.

Great advice
I once heard someone describe a backsplash as the jewelry of your kitchen, which should be added to accessorize after your outfit (cabs and counters) is chosen.
I would leave it alone but add some color, like some red flowers on top of the cabinets, maybe a different throw rug with a pop of color, but i would leave the back splash alone unless your changing counter-tops form Formica to granite, etc.
I would tile that backsplash area and then add under cabinet lights. This is a great example of how the combination of the two makes a huge difference.

its a nice kitchen. I like the other poster that said crown molding at the top, absolutley, it needs that.
the little cabinet to the right next to the fridge, does that also have the 4 inch back splash also?, Im thinking yes.
Can you get more of it and continue it just behind the stove (mostly for ease of cleaning) and put it all the way up?
the rest doesnt really need a back splash, unless you removed the 4 inch around.
Maybe you can paint it a different color for some interest?
never the less, it is a nice kitchen.
