4 inch granite backsplash vs tile backsplash
what is the difference between having a tile backsplash vs that 4 inches of granite and then just wall.
I prefer the tile, but is their a practical reason people use the granite(looks nice as well)

Have you considered 4x4 tumbled marble? Lil more expensive than tile but it looks amazing and covers the whole wall vs. granite.

We used a glass tile backsplash. Very contemporary and we love the look.

My guessm you don't have to mess with maintaining the grout.

Yep - the grout and the pattern - all those combinations of tiles and grout creates a lot of pattern - even when there are subtle color variations on each tile - those variation create pattern when used in spaces.....I think that that look will be very dated in a few years...our granite is already busy (that may be out too, LOL), so a busy backsplash was out of the question - we chose to go with a 4 inch matching granite backsplash and paint.

I used tumbled marble tiles for the backsplash in the last kitchen I had. Great contrast to all the granite in the room. Would do it that way again.

Don't see it more? Are you living in a cave? lol
Tumbled marble/travertine backsplashes have become so common that most people don't even notice them anymore. Be original- try some copper tiles, some stainless, or something unique. We went with the standard 4" granite splash because I haven't decided what we're going to do there, but I knew it wasn't going to be the tile that the builder offered as an upgrade....lol.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. I like the idea of the glass tiles on the backsplash with the granite countertop; however, do you take the granite up the 4 inches and then place glass tiles above that or do you take the tiles all the way from the countertop up?

We chose the matched 4" backsplash with our granite, as it is slightly dark and then we have white tile, and then above and around the cabinets and window etc. we have paint. The main thing is having it all flow,
