Since I never celebrated holidays, I am starting from scratch. The tradition I immediately reject is the tree, since I don't have that much space, and that would be a waste of a tree. I have been thinking of making a wreath, but as more than just a circle of conifer boughs, since it would be the primary decoration. I tried wrapping copper and aluminum wire around a wheel rim, but I don't have enough wire.

Not sure what the point of your post is. If you don’t want a tree, don’t buy one. There are all sorts of Christmas decorations available in the stores. Pick what you like.

You should be able to find an artificial half tree that you hang on the wall. Or, you can buy an artificial tabletop tree.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel here to have a taste of the holidays in your home.

There are two-foot-tall artificial trees so you won't be wasting anything. As the others have said, your options are almost limitless.

Try to focus on the meaning behind the symbols to help you get in the mood of the season instead of what you think is bad about it.

I wonder why you suddenly want to start celebrating holidays. Is someone expecting it from you? I think we need to know that before we could help you with it.

I don't have a specific reason. I'm old enough now to ignore the religious aspects and focus on celebrating and decorating, and various injuries limit my physical activities.

I would probably make something instead of buying anything made of plastic.

Check those ideas. Click on the "images" folder:

Those are easy and cheap projects. For some you can use some cheap stuff from thrift stores and real greens free from places that sell Christmas trees.
You don't need much to create holiday spirit. A center piece on the table with some greens, candles and few ornaments. Few decorated green branches in a vase. A table cloth or runner, a bowl with Christmas cookies and a special meal for Christmas day...

Happy Christmas!!

My daughter her last 2 years at home she used to do fresh Christmas tree branches , 3 branches of approx 1.5 ft length bought at garden center she added a small set of tiny fairy lights in white and a small set of silver baubles of 1 inch size . It was mounted on the wall over her schoolwork desk upstairs. Several bits of poster-putty adhesive held it onto the wall.
