I want to install wood flooring in a bedroom and den. The rooms have traditional style mahogany furniture. The floor of the hall that opens into these rooms is a light beige ceramic tile (I live in Florida) with pinkish and yellow tones, so I would like a wood floor that has some contrast, but I don't want to put a yellowish oak or light wood floor in those rooms. The walls are yellow-gold (Camelback SW paint) with one wall Sawdust green (SW paint color). Bedspread is sawdust and drapes are gold. I would like cherry or mahogany colored, but then the floor would not contrast with the furniture. Also, would having dark floors and dark furniture make the room look bottom-heavy? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. My husband would prefer carpet since it would be easier on the feet.

You could go for a washed out dark wood so that its mostly dark but a pale grain shows through to give a contrast to the furniture - or perhaps walnut might be nice if very expensive...

I would go for a medium tone wood, personally. I think all the dark furniture and dark wood floor might be too heavy. Also, I had very dark wood floors in my last house and you have to dust mop daily - sometimes twice daily. It wasn't fun!
