Take a look at the Civic as offered in the UK-quite a different animal. I guess we want boring Hondas, as that is what Honda gives us in the US, both cars and bikes.
I think Honda overeacted to their fame as a favorite import tuner car of the 90's. Now they make many of their lastest vehicles UGLY. I think every model across their line is ugly, and I think the Fit totally stinks at 33 hwy mpg when they could have put a taller 5th gear in it and get 40 mpg. They made it a hwy buzz bomb.
I liked the Hondas of the 80's to 92 mostly. I loved my college car - 1980 Honda Accord hatchback, and a 1990 Jackson Racing modified Civic SI. The Accord began to be an ugly car in the mid 90's +. I have never liked the Accords of the 2000's era.
I had a 1978 Accord Hatchback in the early eighties, and my first new car was a 1985 Accord LX, which was a terrific car that never gave me any problems. AFAIK, the new Civic & Accord will both be out later this year; not sure about the month, but Honda had better get a move on, since the new Altima is now out.

Americans dissapoint me again. Why don't you people want the fun Hondas?
HONDA DOESN'T HAVE THE BEST ENGINEERING ANYMORE. DO THEY HAVE DIRECT INJECTION IN THEIR ENGINES? The Ford Focus hatchback has variable valve timing and direct injection, and it gets 37 mpg hwy vs the FIT's pathetic 33 mpg hwy. I'm getting into American cars now, and lately they have been way better than Hondas or Toyotas [except for the Prius]. The Cruze and Dart are nice too.
How many miles will the Focus go? 300k without any major problems, maybe 400k ....ask yourself?
