Thanks everyone for the advice. I took it to a local dealership to have it checked out. It's going to need about $1300 worth of work. The scariest thing is the drivers side tie rod is about to go.Needless to say,I am not driving this car until it is fixed.
I want to at least fix this.I cannot in good conscious sell or trade in a dangerous car.The other things I am told could wait.
Stealership will generally charge the highest price for work done. You would almost certainly be better off with an indy shop.
If you consider the cost of the oil you are burning to the gas you are burning anyway, you will see why I consider oil burning a nuisance but not actually a problem. Even if you need a quart every tank of gas - say you fill up with 10 gallons - that's at least $35. Machs nicht if you need to throw in another 3 bucks or so for a quart of oil (bought by the case at any discount store).
So, after dealing with a poorly run Toyota place, I went to a local Honda dealer and come home tonight with a 2007 Accord,67k, for $9000. It was a local car with full service records from the dealer.I love that is an Accord, and I am very comfortable in my decision.

My first commute with the 07 Accord. It is a blast from the past.Even at 7 years old,it runs like the '99 did when it was new.I didn't realize just how bad a shape the old girl was in.The '07 drives like new.(Knock wood). The previous owner needs to be thanked!

Congrats on the replacement Accord, sounds like a good buy, especially considering the advances in safety equipment from when the old Accord was purchased.

Thank you. And it is safer with ABS and side curtain airbags.Everything is better.I can't imagine how much better the 2014s are. One thing that struck me was comparing the keys. The newer one is bigger and fancier.

Thank Goodness you live in New Jersey!
You could never find a deal like that in So Cal,unless it had 150k miles on it.
I would definitely take it in for a oil change and a Transmission fluid change asap
Congrats on the car
Congrats! If I recall correctly, 2007 was the last year of the 7th generation, which is regarded by most enthusiasts as a better driving car than the 2008-2012 model. You got a great price for that mileage as well! I have a 2004 that I bought with 103k for $10,000 a few years ago.
