back doors on 1998 honda civic lx,wont open fron inside or outside, door lock buttons go up and down, but back doors are closed tight and ,I can't see any way to remove door panels to see what problem is. any help would be apperciated.
These are kinda like the "I can't believe it's so simple" but only after you see how it is put together. I'd recommend buying a subscription to alldata, about 20 bucks for a specific car. You'll need a mechanics pick or pocket screwdriver and a #3 screwdriver.
Thats what I was going to say, but I think that even when the child locks are on that it should open from the outside... unless the back locks are sticking?
it is possible that it is the child locks; we've thought of that, but since both outside door handles also stopped working, i am guessing that it is something else, and i wouldn't be able to check that anyway.
a mechanic told us that we were just going to have to drill the doors. he didn't even seem too excited to bid on it. maybe it's a boring or tricky job or something...
Give the hack that proposes drilling the doors the boot. This was a good test case to find out this guy at least does not know what he's doing with body work anyway. He may be OK under the hood but obviously he's too quick to use destructive techniques...
Johnfrisco - Thanks for posting the link to the Honda Forum. Great site. Gave you a rep.
Stycotl - RUN away from the guy that wanted to take a drill to the door. Sounds like your mechanic isn't a Honda-certified tech.
While I haven't gone to a dealer for service in years, all of my service is by Honda certified techs and completed with Honda parts. It's no wonder that my 1997 CR-V is almost at 300k.
