If there's enough wall space in the bathroom. Most bathrooms in newer homes are larger than they used to be.

So if there's room, why not?

The cost would be minimal. There's already a water line in the wall to get to the stool and the sink.

The seat cover open vs. closed would be less of an issue. It would also save water. Lots of advantages, really.

Yes, I realize there's humor in the subject but there's some merit to it as well.

Over the past 20 years I have inspected several thousand houses (probably close to 8000 or more). I have seen a urinal in two.

I'm not sure the cost is all that minimal. While adding a water supply line and a waste line is very little, the cost of the urinal and the flush valve can be pretty high, since they are commercial fixtures and will cost more than some residential fixtures.

The flooring around the urinal needs to be considered. Around almost all of the urinals I see are little puddles or drips from splash overs, misses, or "post pee" drips. Then there is the smell issues if they are not flushed frequently and the trap dries out.

However, if you have room, and you want one, then go for it.

Then you have to deal with the pee on the floor.

I hate the mans room urinals because most men it seems pee all over the floor.

The cost would NOT be minimal. Supply water lines are not expensive. It's the waste stacks that are expensive. And you would need a second one to add a urinal. Then of course there's the bracing you'll need to support the urinal, since they are wall-hung and most people don't have wall-hung toilets in their homes. The bracing alone will cost ~$2500, depending on various factors. You might as well just build yourself a second bathroom at that point.

then of course there's the obvious point: why install something that can only do one job, when you've already got something that can do both?

Because I would be the one to clean it. Also, it would have to have it's own little room because I would not feel comfortable sitting next to it. We do not need more stinky porcelain bathroom fixtures in the bathroom!

Did you get this opinion from watching a cartoon or sitcom or something?

No urinal. It's a home, not a locker room.

If you absolutely insist on adding a second porcelain fixture, consider a bidet instead of a urinal.

As for toilet seats that stay up ... get a slow-close seat. No excuses NOT to put it back down anymore, since all it takes is a touch.
