We have a quote for a 4 ton 13 seer AC to be put on the existing furnace & duct system for the downstairs in our home. It is Trane models 4TTR3048 & 4TXCD050.
10 yrs on parts 1 yr on labor is the warranty
We probably need to replace the upstairs as well while we are at it since both are 17 years old and hopfully we can get the tax credits.
Our quote is ~$5400.00
If we replace the gas furnace with model TUH1C100A948 we can add $2635.
Is this reasonable? Anyone had this done recently???
It will depend on what area of the country you are in, what brand you get (Trane is top of the line, but is also one of the most expensive) and how bad your contractor wants your business. However, $5400 for 2 units seems pretty reasonable.
Get quotes from several companies, get references, all that good stuff.
The 95% gas furnace model number is TUH1C100A948 that is an addl $2635
We have a large house. 3 levels. The one quoted above is for the main living space (kitchen, FR, DR LR, bathrm, laundry, bonus room. The upstairs is about the same. Not counting the finished basement we are at ~5500 sq ft.
Hubby says furnace has some corrosion and some things were replaced. (ignitor) I am assuming our 9 seer units that are 17 yo need to go. One has a leak that we have kept going with freon (it leaks out at least once a season the past 5 years) so getting expensive to keep it going. The leak is in a non reachable place. Our A/C bill for our whole house this summer was ~$500/mo...rediculously high. We keep the thermostats at 73/74 to cool and 68 to heat in the winter.
That's why I need the existing furnace's model number...
You may need a 4 ton system but that's totally dependent on your specific home. If they're just using the size of the existing system then they should provide you with the burden of proof as to why that size is right. If you're going to spend that much a load calculation should be provided proving that your house requires those specific sizes of equipment.
