Actually, they are sitting in a bag, ready for me to take them to Lowe's to be put in their CFL recycle bin. I am in the middle of transitioning back to incandescents until the price of LED's come down. Recently, after having to replace several CFL's that were less than 3 years old and got fed up at older CFL's putting out less and less light (lumens) each time they run, I decided to go back to the old style. Isn't one of the issues of CFL's, that they put out less light with each use? I am sick of the warmup and even the shape of them. As for energy savings, from what I keep reading on the internet, I am not so sure CFL's have the big, huge energy savings that they claim. Anyway, I am not going to stockpile the incandescent bulbs, rather I am just biding my time until LED's come down and are perfected. I am not going to pay $20-$100 for ONE LED bulb.
I've never heard of them putting out less light with use, but many 60 watt equivalent bulbs only put about 50-55 watts in comparison. You just need to read the labels to make sure. The early ones were pretty bad with the terrible light, delayed starts and what not, but they have come leaps and bounds over the years. While they have fixed most of the issues, that annoying "warm up" seems to be the major problem they just can't fix. LED no doubt will be the way to go, but it's going to be a few years before the price comes down into reality.

An easy test to prove this, if you have CFL's, is to take a CFL that is fairly old and put in a new one next to it. Give them both time to warm up and you will see one being brighter than the other.
Instead of recycling a bunch of light bulbs which have a little bit of life in them, why not give them away to someone who doesn't mind their quirks so much?

I agree with all the negative CFL points made above. I would love to see LED lights come down in price..heck I would love to put up glowing LED sheet rock on my ceilings and put on a light show, but that's for a different thread.
I also dislike that the CFL bulbs contain mercury. I guarantee I'm going to be the guy that gets mercury poisoning due to forgetting to leave a room for 10 minutes (as suggested) after a CFL bulb breaks. I'm careless and forgetful by nature.
Not sure how scientific or true all of it is, but it's a good read. It also talks about decreasing lumens in CFL's. Also, I didn't know they even made incandescent bulbs that can last 25,000 hours/ten years.
Moved in to a new place two years ago and replaced all the bulbs in the place with CFL's. All of them but one still work...so they came with when I moved again (rent was going up upon new lease).
My only gripe is that I can only seem to find a 40W equivalent bulb and nothing higher...unless I go into the "spotlight" style...and those are only 65W equivalent. Not enough light if I only get one light in the room.
