Hello..
is it a good or a bad thing to have your laundry room on the upper level? It would be really convenient since all the bedrooms in our new house are upstairs but we are worried about leaks from the washer and it seeping through to the lower level.

Your thoughts?

Thanks.

95% of the laundry rooms are downstairs. Some expensive homes have it upstairs, because it has more space, doesn't interfere with noise

Well, thanks dragonten, our home certainly is a big investment for us but don't think it would be categorised as expensive. Do you think it would be a good resale point since it's seen mostly in upper range homes?

I would prefer to have my laundry on the floor where I spend the most time. I don't spend most of my time (other than sleeping) in my bedroom, so I'd want my laundry on the main living area. I know that much of the laundry is generated from where the bedrooms are but some homes have chutes to the laundry room - that is how I would configure it if I were building a home. I would not want to be walking up and down the stairs all the time to check the laundry or to carry laundry. This topic reminds me of why I love ranch architecture so much - so convenient.

From what I've heard, having a washer/dryer on the same floor as the master bedroom is a good selling point. And yes, it is easier for you since you don't have to bring the laundry up and down the stairs. If the washer does leak, that would certainly be a problem but if you're buying a nice, brand new washer and get professional installation, your risks are minimized quite a bit.

Now that’s good thinking!

in a 2 story home a laundry room with cabinets and a folding table/platform on the main floor is a plus. a laundry chute is also an added plus and not costly to install during construction.

Thanks for the input everyone. will have to ask if a laundry chute can be done when we build. It sounds pretty cool too!

definitely go with a laundry chute because it will give your new home an added feature of luxury and convenience many other homes don't have.

Not sure how to answer that question, depends how the house is laid out.
