No, and I never really understood the need of this kind of room.

We have a living room on the main floor that you enter when you walk in the door. We added a "family room" when we finished our basement about 15 years ago.

For me, I like a comfortable room that doesn't have a tv where I can read or visit with friends while others use the family room with the tv, video games, etc.

Yes. 'Formal' living room with fireplace and bar near front door. We put a nice pool table and a piano there. Den farther back in the house with tv, fireplace, etc. Movie theater room upstairs. We are going to use it as a game room for the kid instead.

I can definitely see having separate rooms like that if I had kids at home

Yes, I have a large living room open to the kitchen, I love it. Great for entertaining. Have a large family room set up for kids. The wii and 3 couches for lots of friends. It is a lot to clean though, but worth it.

Our living room is where we (wife, I) have our computers, printers, routers etc, (sort of an office I suppose but it's not like we "work" in it). Still we keep the wires and cables hidden so it isn't ugly.
The dining room also has a laptop on the table and it serves as the kids' homework room. Big table, pencil sharpener, laptop - works great.
The family room is the TV/Wii room. It has the fireplace.

Our configuration makes a balanced efficient use of a living room, dining room and family room.

We have a front parlor and back parlor (formal dining room in between). The front parlor, off of the foyer, has the loveseat, chairs, and TV. We do gather here but everything is a quick pick-up if case guests arrive. It gets more sun than the back so we love sitting in this room. It is designed like Art Deco-style (or maybe our variation of Art Deco Re-Mix?)

The back parlor has a fireplace, a bank of 4 windows overlooking the backyard, etc. We don't use it right now as we have recently moved and sorting out and moving things around back here. We might use it as a sitting room or reading room. There are large palm trees in there now and we'll keep some kids toys there on a shelf. I have a small ladies writing desk to refinish for that room. The cats sit there and look out the windows and try to scare the birds and squirrels that wander in the back.

living room downstairs open to kitchen and eat-in kitchen area that stays looking decent.
And then a "game room" upstairs for the kiddos with big TV, big comfy sofa, games, etc.

"Formal" living rooms downstairs with a regular living room is not for us.

I forgot to add that although we have both rooms there's only the 2 of us. The living room in
the front is more just a big entry. There's furniture in there but we never use it, the peke likes
it because there's a leather loveseat against the front window and he can sit on the back of it
and look outside. He can step onto the windowsill from there too.
