Just an FYI for those of you who are do-it-yourselfers or work in the industry.

The CDC said the alert was based on research that began at Michigan State University. Scientists found 13 deaths between 2000 and 2011 of workers using products containing methylene chloride to strip paint from residential bathtubs. Three of the deaths were in Michigan, and the remaining 10 were reported in nine other states.
I really fail to see why the CDC even bothered to issue a warning, isn't the CDC usually concerned about contagious diseases? They shouldn't concern themselves with issuing pointless warnings to people who do not have any common sense to begin with. There are hundreds of chemicals that can kill you if you use them in an area without sufficient ventilation, or without proper respiratory protection. I seriously doubt anyone of these 13 people would have done anything different, if they read this warning from the CDC.
If you've got a cluster of biostatisticians it's probably more efficient to have that cluster look for patterns in both environmental health and epidemiology than to have two different clusters of scientists examining each area.
It clearly states on the direction of this material that proper ventilation needs to be addressed. My DH used this on a bathroom makeover and only used it when he could open everything to clear the fumes out. Common sense.
It is sad that people died from this. However, the dangers of this chemical are pretty well-known to users. I wonder if it's the MC combined with other chemcials or just the MC alone? Seems like the workers would have take precautions with the proper chemical masks?
I have use it to strip furniture. But I am always outdoors and on a good day, when there's a slight breeze.
I feel deeply for the 13 deaths but lets get real here. By the same CDC's own statistics, 6.5 MILLION people die from smoking each year and another million and a half from second hand smoke. And tell me what's done about that other then printing a useless warning label on the cigg pack.
