In the basement behind the bathroom wall there is a small puddle of water coming from the bathroom into the laundry area, it doesn't seem to get bigger or smaller, nor does it go away. I can't tell where it's coming from or where it's going. Also I have noticed wet/ damp spots in the bathroom floor and in the little hallway between the bathroom and the spare bed room. Any ideas what could be leaking?
It could be hydrostatic pressure. That is, the water is coming up through the concrete floor. We've had it happen twice, once after a 100 year storm and after a heavy rain melted all the snow. What happens is the water table rises to where it's higher than your basement floor and water pressure forces its way through cracks in your concrete floor. If you haven't had a lot of rain recently, you might have a leaking pipe under your floor.
Spend the money & consult a specialist...

This.
Speaking from experience, once water finds its way inside a basement, it remembers how it got there and shows up more often and with more vengence - especially if it is related to any sort of seepage through concrete. Having dealt with flooding basements too frequently in the last few years, I really would not have peace of mind without having the opinion of a specialist.
That being said, we made sure that our new house would not have a basement (or leaves to rake, or grass to mow, or snow to shovel).
What all is around the area where the water is collecting? Is it near your furnace? Is there a hose from the furnace that takes moisture from the AC? Is that blocked?
I think I figured it out... there is a length of garden hose running from the hot water heater that got shoved behind the bathroom wall, just around the corner from where the water was appearing. I rerouted to the floor drain by the wash machine tub.

I'm thinking your hot-water heater should not be leaking at all...if the hose is coming from your relief valve, it is probably not code to "pipe" it this way.
