I have seen a deck near a hot tub that is only about 10 years old and it is rotted in many places. Especially where people walked from the hot tub to the house. Anyone seen chemicals rot treated wood before?
Well, chlorine and bromine - the two common chemicals used in hot tubs - are strong oxidizers, which is why they kill bacteria, fungi, and algae. It stands to reason that constant exposure could leach out the rot preventing chemicals used in PT wood.
Its possible since its rotten where people walk from getting out of the hot tub is just getting wetter than the surrounding areas. It prob is not draining off the tops of the boards and just sits there till it evaporates and eventually as the wood ages as opens up gets worse and worse.
Might go with that engineered plastic wood look boards they sell now to fix that from happening again..
