My Marco Natural Gas Fireplace (Model B36CFI) won’t turn on with the remote. The pilot light is lite. The remote’s led lights up so I assume it is not a battery issue. Is there a manual way to turn on the fireplace to rule out the battery? How do I troubleshoot the issue?

Thanks for the help.

-Shawn

A B36 designation is a wood-burning f/pl.
So, I assume you have a gas log set in the f/pl- you need to find a name and model number for it.
And a battery would be a quick elimination.

Name and model for what? The battery appears to be working because it lights the remote brightly. Should I still replace it? Are you referring to another battery?

I removed all the logs and cleaned the thermopile (or at least what I think is the thermopile as I didn't see the thermocouple. No difference. It used to take 5-6 seconds to light and then make a whooshing sound similar to this person's experience: DIY: Gas Fireplace Won’t Light? Understand now. I didn't realize the insert is different from the log set. My wife had me convinced there was no wireless receiver. Well, there was and it just needed the batteries to be replaced.

Help, we have a Marco gas log fireplace insert. It has stopped lighting, well not completely. We have a switch on the wall
and before you flipped the switch and it would light up. Now most of the time when we flip the switch nothing happens but if we hit the wall and the switch at the same time it will light up. Can you help?

Sounds like the wiring connections are loose. The switch operates the solenoid valve- it operates in milivolts.

K'ledgeBldr is probably right. We had similar problem with our gas fireplace insert. We had it serviced; it took two trips before someone figured out that it had not been properly wired. Apparently when fireplaces are installed in new homes, the often just "slip the wires in" with out proper tightening. After a few years the wire comes loose.

We found out that a smoker had lived in our house from the stuff they found in the unit. Apparently you need to have these serviced every few years. Every decade, perhaps? At any rate ours is clean now.
