Our dryer works, sometimes. Been doing research and shopping around to replace the thing. Seems like you can only buy based on features and price, then take your chances. Are you happy with your dryer? What kind is it? What should I avoid? Help me please!
I dunno, Kenmore washers and dryers worked for my mother with little trouble for 30 years, then my wife and I ran our own Kenmores for 17 years with zero repairs until we moved and sold them to a friend. They are still running strong. It's a good line.
We got a whirlpool one from Best Buy and it has worked great. My dad swears by Whirlpool products, so that's why we got it, plus it was a great price (not one of the fancy ones).
Bought my GE W/D off Craigslist three years ago for total of $400 -- they're still working great, and we do a LOT of laundry (7-15 supersize loads weekly). I'd love to have those super-duper fancy ones, but I'm sure not interested in *paying* for them!
I had a 22 year old Maytag that I LOVED. When it wore out, we got another Maytag. It needed rollers replaced within 4 years. I have since replaced just about every part on that dang dryer. They don't make them like they used to.
Get a Whirlpool with knobs instead of electronics.
I sort of agree. In 99% of the time, simpler means longer MTBF. Make sure the dryer is big enough too (You wouldn't want a dryer that can only handle 80% of the washer load for example).
Buy something with the minimum of controls (most people just stick it on one setting for a certain amount of minutes and let it go). Fancy features are generally unused and waste of money and reduce the MTBF.
Buy a dryer you can afford with the features you want, but not more than you need. Don't get all starry-eyed with bells and whistles.
