Get some estimates and then take the neighbor to small claims court. You will need a witness to his cutting down the tree with it falling into your house.

You may just have a cultural misunderstanding.
Find someone who is from the same culture who can talk with both you and your neighbor.
Trying talking before declaring nuclear war with: police, lawyers, etc.

I'm still not able to get over the fact that you've been living with a hole in your house for a year.

This scenario is why homeowner's insurance exists. You should have filed a claim when it happened.

I agree with these posters that you should contact your insurance company immediately. They will deal with your neighbor's insurance company. I can't imagine why you'd let this go a year unless perhaps you don't have a homeowners policy?

You probably have secondary damage after a year of water getting into that hole. Who knows how rotted or molded inside that wall is. You can't just cover up the hole. So get a pro to work out the repair plan and let insurance deal with it.

Hope you grabbed a few pictures after it happened or the evidence may be totally gone by now and then, good luck...

Which culture doesn't mind when other people put holes in their houses?

Default Not the hole, but the repair

I was referring to the offer to repair.
I am just saying that talking before tossing hand grenades might be sensible.
