Wanting to buy my daughter a steam mop or electric broom as she just had hardwood installed and has a dog; also doesn't like to clean too much. Has anybody had any luck with a particular brand or style?
Thanks!!!
1. Swifter -Swiffer Sweeper Floor Mop Starter Kit for $12.
2. Microfiber - Microfiber Duster | Microfiber Dust Mop | Rubbermaid $40+ (cheaper than Swifter in the long run as the pads are washable/reusable)
3. Stick Vacuum - Consumer Reports says #3 on the list is the Shark Rocket HV302 for $190

I had heard that steam mops and vacuum cleaners with a “beater brush” are NOT recommended for most wood floors. Hardwood floors should be damp mopped and avoid water remaining on the wood. Always mop it up quick. Steam can damage wood quickly………
Arksarben: I was thinking this same thing - but their l-yr.old drops things on the floor and also with the dog they're not that great at getting at it right away. I like the steam from a sanitary standpoint. They don't seem to mind the dirt but if I'm babysitting I want to be in clean surroundings and am willing to do the cleaning.

Then I would advise a more traditional cleaning solution for hardwood floors. I'm sure they love you babysitting and will appreciate any cleaning you do, but not at the expense of their hardwoods being ruined by steam mopping. The one year old has probably also tried to chew on the dog a time or two with no harm done, so enjoy the time with them while you have it rather than fretting over cleaning!
