I have a 780 and I like it, though it is loud. I have hardwood floors and a shedding dog. It doesn't replace vacuuming, but is great for keeping the hair under control between vacuuming.
I have the 650 to help me with my ridiculously shedding English Bulldog. Honestly, I don't know how I was getting on without it! I love it. I do have a relatively open floor plan, hardwood flooring townhouse, so I think it's easy work for my Roomba.
I schedule it to run at noon Mon-Fri because it IS loud. Still, though, totally worth it.
So, someone said there's a grass cutting version??

Yes, the grass-mowing Roomba has been available for many years. I considered getting one for my back yard -- not the front, as I think it might get stolen if I werent sitting out there watching it...although sitting and watching my yard get mowed is a tantalizing idea.
And someone once asked me if the Roomba noise didnt bother me. My reply was that listening to the sound of someone else vacuuming my house never bothers me.
I bought the Roomba in the eBay link that I provided in my post. It will be a nice Christmas gift for one of my daughters. Eight other people were watching that auction so there was a lot of interest in it.
Thanks so much to the OP for starting this thread. Otherwise, I probably wouldnt have thought about getting one for her.
Amazed at all the negative reviews! I figured they HAD to have some value considering the outrageous price...and they sound cheaply made, for all that money.
After reading the posts and many online reviews, I'm hoping the company that makes Roomba could focus on perfecting one model instead of coming out with yet another model.
They keep increasing the price tag for the consumer and the reviews are the same. (Doesn't pickup well, really loud, breaks easily, doesn't last and way too expensive)
I'm still deciding whether to purchase one for a gift. I agree with posts that mention the Roomba is a novelty item, however, for the price it's hard to call this a novelty item.
I've had Roombas for several years, I'm on my third one. They do tend to malfunction after a few years so I get a Square Trade Warranty on them. My current one just crapped out, a 620 and I'm trying to decide whether to get a 700 or 800 series to replace it. I would never consider a Roomba to be a novelty item, I have two dogs and two birds and 90% of my vacuuming is with the Roomba, it would be 100% but I have a deep pile area rug that Roomba doesn't run well on so I need to vacuum that.
I've always wondered what would happen when the roomba hits a pile of fresh dog poo....
My neighbor found this out the hard way. Not poo, but dog puke. The Roomba spread is all over the house. One of the many reasons I won't get one. Sounds good on the surface (I have to constantly vacuum dog fur), but won't get one. Aside from the dog mess scenario, there are plenty of places that it can't get to in my house, like under the stools, etc.
I have 3 irobots and I love them . I use them everyday and I do a thorough vacuum once a week. They pick up any dust hair bunnies, under the beds where its harder for me to get to. I like the fact they get under the furniture, I have tile and wood floors and they clean very good. I am very satisfied with them. And I haven't had any problems with them. I highly recommend them. To me they are worth the money. I use 1 upstairs and 2 downstairs cleaning different areas. Our house is 3100 square feet with 2 downstairs it covers it all and does t well.
i bought a 650 model from Costco, good price and comes with a bunch of extras as most Costco items do. it did a good job for whats its supposed to do. i also have a Dyson.... no comparison but it allowed me to use the Dyson alot less. Roomba would go off at night everyday as maintenance cleaning, and i would Dyson vacuum about once a week for a "deep" clean. we ended up returning our Roomba only because we have a traditional colonial house with many gates due to kids so it was annoying to move him around all the time and pointless to clean one/2 rooms a night.
i am looking forward to the Dyson 360eye when it hits the states. looks like a real vacuum but very expensive.
