We have an outlet on our porch that we use with a timer to control our landscape uplights. This circuit is also in the garage serving all the outlets and has a GFI installed as one of the duplex outlets. Occasionally, an uplight will go bad and trip the GFI shutting off the refer - not good!
Short of rewiring, is it possible/advisable to put an in-line GFI between the timer and the outlet? My thought is that that will trip keeping the garage outlets working even if there is a problem with the outside lights. Should/could I also swap out the garage GFI with a regular outlet? I'm not sure the amperage in the garage but the refrigerator and chest freezer are the only real draws on the circuit.
The best thing to do is dedicated circuits for the fridge AND freezer.
There is a "work around", but I'm certainly not going to announce it here. It would sorta work, but you'd probably be pushing your luck on the total amperage (cause it wouldn't be code) for the circuit.
