So anyone have any idea of a ball park price?? house has 3 bathrooms all inline with each other so 1st floor 2nd floor then 3rd floor. There is a full basement for accessibility as well. We opened up the second floor bathroom walls and the cast iron pipe has a giant crack/hole 2 ft crack with the middle foot is missing 1/4 of the cast iron. Opened up 1st floor wall no cracks but covered in rust. no rust on iron once we get to the basement and the pipe runs horizontal. So to replace the 30 ft or so of drain running from 3rd floor to basement.

Prices are really location based. Your best bet is to call a couple plumbers and ask for a quote.

Since you'll be replacing it with PVC... MOST of the expense is labor.
The next biggest expense is plaster and wall board work.

A two person plumber team (mech & helper) will be there most of the day.
I doubt anyone competent will charge less than $500 anywhere.
If you licensed, insured etc. probably twice that.

Add a few hundred for the materials.
(plus the wall repairs)

Considering how much quieter cast is versus PVC, I'd have the plumber just repair the damaged section. I see no real advantage to replacing the entire vent stack-

Cost? The only way you'll know for sure- 3 or 4 quotes/estimates. Then make an educated decision based on the information before you.

You could fix the crack yourself with a boot and some pic. If the rust is real bad, do the whole thing (written as I'm remodeling a bathroom with cast iron drains).
