So, I live in Northern Florida, and had a bid on a tiling job in my house - bedroom, closet and bath for $2.50/sq ft. Does this seem reasonable? Total sq. footage is about 350. They said it didn't matter the tile size, and it will be laid in rectangular, not diagonal or anything fancy.

Is that just the labor? Or does that include materials too? Remember to make sure they're actually tile professionals and not just some construction guy picking up extra work...

That's the labor. I buy the materials. I know this person well, and he does excellent work. Say's he normally charges 3.00. I know he would never "take" me, but I was a little taken aback at the price, so I just need a sanity check.

That is a good price. National average runs closer to $3.50 per foot without materials.

If you know he does good work, that's a good price. Go for it. I can't guarantee your sanity in other respects though.

Here (midwest, Cinci and Detroit) usually more like $7/sq ft for labor. $2.50 is CHEAP!

At that price, you're hiring a fly-by-night with no insurance- not a legitimate tile contractor. Hopefully nothing goes wrong down the road that needs attention, and hopefully no one gets hurt on the job- you'll end up paying any workers comp costs with your homeowner's insurance or in court.

I would agree with you if I didn't know him so well. He's a neighbor, and you'll just have to trust me that these folks are as honest as they come. Good folks through and through. I'll post pics when complete.

Thanks so much for the info, you have really relieved my mind as to cost. I'm just very spoiled about costs, because for the most part I've had had very good luck with hired help, I truly had no idea what tiling really costs.
