Eventually I added the polymeric sand.
However it might not perform well as designed.
The product manual says there should be sufficient gab between the pavers. At least 1/4 of an inch if I remember correctly. In my case it was about 1/10 of an inch. The pavers were sitting firm even without anything.
But I think this sand should prevent leaves and other debris from getting between the pavers. So I am happy I finished this project.
Thanks everyone for the participation!
If you really want to get sand in the spaces, even though very small, I wonder if you could use play sand box sand. I got some for my son's cover sand box, it's white and very fine, sugar sand I think it was called.

Plain sand will fill the joints but it is not a locking agent; it doesn't harden and will wash out.
sooooo i am considering sealing my pavers. i would like them to look more black than dark gray. my mom sealed her pavers in florida and regrets it because it didnt last very long (less than 1 year). i live in nj so substantially different weather conditions (im not sure exactly how my weather would impact the sealant differently than florida's but im sure there is a difference). anyone have any thoughts? think i would need to redo the whole thing more frequently than every other year?
Personally, I wouldn’t seal pavers since it changes the absorption characteristics and wears differently.
I would leave them natural and power wash as often (if ever) as you feel necessary. I had a paver driveway and front walk in NY (2 mi from NJ border) for about 12 years and it looked great.
