Not sure where to post this but hopefully you guys are able to help being that I am quite the newbie when it comes to house issues. Recently moved to a house in Dallas that was constructed in 1950s. Have noticed over the past couple of weeks that there is a humming noise that comes on and off every 10-15 minutes. At first, we did not notice it but now it has become more noticeable. I don't think its related to HVAC. It is most noticable in one particular room and you can feel a slight vibration in the floor. Any guesses??
My refrigerator does that, and it vibrates my apartment in a really subtle way, so that it seems like it's coming from a different area of the apartment. It's weird, but it took me a while to realize it was the fridge.

it may be pipes underneath. deff something to look at.
Simplest thing I would think.. Go to your panel and start throwing breakers until either all of them are off, or the noise stops.
Assuming it stops.. Look at the last breaker you turned off.. If it doesn't stop.. It's PROBABLY not electrical. It COULD still be, however, if you have something hooked up to an outside panel.. I have a pressure tank for my well that is wired to an outside panel.
I've actually had hot water heaters make a small noise at times.. So, could be that. Though I would be really concerned if that thing was cycling every 15 minutes unless you're using lots of hot water at the time.
My hearing is not that great but my son was complaining about a hum/buzz in his bedroom that I couldn't hear. We figured out it was the dimmer switch to the ceiling light in his room. Replaced the switch and humming stopped.
