You do realize as a national homebuilder they basically put their name on local subs work right? Pulte had employees supervising but they used local trades to build homes. Some were better than others.
I bought a Pulte house new and it was a great house. Neighborhood used multiple builders but the Pulte homes were better than the rest.
His kid (Mark Timothy Pulte) builds expensive mansions and has done quite well: Home - Mark Timothy, Inc

Wikipedia says they have delivered 19,951 new homes and did 7.66 billion in 2016. Guess they are doing pretty good.....

And McDonald's sells about 2.5 billion crappy burgers a year and has a market cap of $125 billion. Is your point that there's a lot of knowledgeless suckers out there with no regard for purchasing quality and a penchant for poor taste? If so, you are spot on with that comment.
Interesting comments. If you've been in the business for any length of time, build quality is ALWAYS subject to the competence of the superintendent that actually builds the house. NO home builder puts out defective plans, the defect is in the people they hire to build them. Don't fault Bill for lousy home builds. In my area, there is only one subdivision that the houses had poor build quality and that was due to a young, clueless super. Otherwise, Pulte builds decent houses here with few complaints.
I'll fault any person who puts their name on something that costs 6+ figures, takes someone else's hard earned money for it and then sits on a board where the order of the day is to maximize profit and minimize their responsibility. The supers, subcontractors and materials are specified and contracted by the home builder, not the home buyer. It's not exactly a secret that these mega-home builders hire and buy as cheaply as possible. Pulte was a pioneer of this practice.

Correct. But we expect them to stand behind the work and to hold the local subs responsible for that work. Not to take the money and run.

I bought a Pulte home years ago for $310,000......lived there 10 years and did not put a dollar in the house and it doubled in value. Can't see a problem with Pulte or his homes.
