What kind of vacuums are the best? I'm really big on keeping my home clean and germ free. I know that Oreck is making a new vacuum with intellashield technology to combat mildew and mold. What have you found to be a very effective vaccum?

My Eureka Boss works well and wasn't all that expensive. And I like my little Roomba iRobot too.

I have a rainbow and while it works really well, its inconvenient to use. You have to put it together and disassemble it EACH TIME you use it and clean out the water tank.
This might not be a big deal for some but its hard for me with a bad back. The suction is great and has never deminished. I have even used it like a shop vac.

I have a Dyson cannister (the upright was too heavy for me) and do not like it for carpets. It's great on floors (has very good range under beds & furniture) but just does not do the job on carpet. I have two dogs (Goldens) and a cat so I need a vac that will pull up their from the carpet. I have back problems and need a light weight vacuum so when Dyson first came out I bought this one.
I am looking to replace the Dyson..Has anyone the Miele vacuums?

The Eureka Boss is quite good at picking up pet hair.

Yep and at least the one that we have (4 or 5 years old now called the Silver Moon) is SWEET. It picks up everything that we've asked it to work on - which is saying something with 8 cats - and it's relatively quiet. If you're using it without the power head (hard floors) it's very quiet. The power head ups the noise quite a bit but it's still quieter than any of the uprights that we checked out before buying it (Oreck, Royal, Eureka, Hoover - we had a Kirby, which sounds like a jet trying to take off.)

The Kirby was an expensive mistake, the Miele has been worth every penny.

My sister and brother-in-law both have Dyson's and hate them. I had a high end Dirt Devil and hated it, it was soo heavy that it killed my back.

Default Vacumes

Living on a farm with three dogs (one German Shedder), two cats, three kids I vacuum all the time. I loved my Rainbow........but cleaning of the bucket was a PITA. I bought a Sears True Heppa canister model for about 400.00. Its great......

Sanitaire. (I think it's made by Eureka and is kinda supposed to be "Eureka" on steroids!) It really picks up the dirt, etc. which is what I wanted.

Regardless of which one you choose, I have a Rainbow, agree it does a great job, but gets old putting it all together ,you also need a Roomba. I have also heard great things about the Dyson. Anyway, I have now decided every OCD person must have a Roomba. LOL I just got mine this weekend.
