From Country Living, hardly a Gen-Z rag:

What Is a Granny Pod?
A granny pod is a modified 'guest house' that allows caregivers close proximity to aging loved ones. They are also called ADUs, or accessory dwelling units, and are designed with safety and accessibility top of mind (for example, slip-resistant floors, wide doorways, and rounded countertops). Some versions offer high-tech medical extras.
my mother in law mentioned at one point wanting to live in a tiny house on my property. will never happen. she is a nice enough lady but she likes to say her piece, criticize my wife and advise her on what she should do. it would be a nightmare.
If you plan to make it a residence for someone, keep in mind -
"An ADU is required to provide permanent provisions for living, sleeping, eating, cooking facilities, and sanitation, as well as, meet other requirements as stipulated by applicable life and safety code requirements from the Department of Public Works, Building and Safety Division and Fire Departments. Please contact those Departments for their process and fees."
