I've done it once and the only real problem was the hole saw dulled so much it was difficult to finish the cut.

Thanks all. Might it be better to drill a bunch of small holes all the way around the 4" circle, then finish with the hole saw ? Or finish with a jigsaw ?

A jigsaw will cause too much vibration since it will push and pull on the siding. As others have mentioned, slow steady pressure on a hole saw or line drill it with a small bit and it should crack in between all of the holes.
