Hi, I apologize if this question has been posted before, but I couldn't find the answer to what I'm asking.
I am installing a fence and am wondering, do I put the good side facing me or the neighbors? I hate putting up a fence, but the houses on the other side of the road are vacation rental properties and we always have headlights from the vehicles shining through our all window entrance door. Also, for some odd reason, the renters always wander over on to our property with their dogs, or have a smoke, drink etc., So, we thought, good fences, make good neighbors.
I've always heard that the good side faces outward where your neighbors can see it and it seems to be the neighborly thing to do. Many years ago we installed a fence on our property and that's the way we did it.
When we got a new fence installed, the company told us it was customary to install fences with the pretty side facing the neighbors. I seem to recall that they added that it was actually also a regulation in our city.

Ordinarily, I would agree with you, but in this case, my neighbors are out of staters that rent on a weekly basis, therefore, really don't care about how their renters' actions affect the full-time resident's peace and tranquility.
Unless there's a rule in your HOA's bylaws, do whatever you want. Personally, I want the pretty side facing out so the "climbing" bars going across can't help someone break into my yard and potentially my house. If that part is in my back yard, harder for bad guys to climb over.
Smooth side facing out. That way it would be harder for someone to climb the fence into your yard.

Definitely facing out . But you can get the nice wood on the inside if you want. Sure more money. You could also plant tall flowers or a hedge on you inside.
Seems odd to me that the renters walk across to your property.
Let us know how it goes. All the best.
